So a few weekends ago my parents invited us to join them to go to the triple door, which is a jazz club in Seattle, which is owned by one of my dad's acquaintances. We of course, quickly said YES, since we love a good night on the town, even before we knew who we were going to see.
The artist was J.D. Souther... now you probably do not recognize his name but let me list a few people he has written songs for...
- James Taylor
- Bonnie Rait
- Linda Ronstadt
- George Strait
- Crosby, Stills and Nash
Well the triple door a quaint little club with intimate seating and EXCELLENT food. It is my Dad's favorite. We enjoyed some delicious asian inspired food from all over, while sitting front row and center enjoying the music (I guess it pays to know the owner).
JD was good, however he only played two songs I recognized... the rest were things he recorded as a solo artist.
However, I was PLEASANTLY surprised by the opening act. Her name was April Smith. I would classify her in the folky acoustic rock/pop that is so popular right now. She is similar to Ingrid Michaelson, Gwen Stefani (circa 1990's) and Sarah Bareilles. Of course I LOVE this type of music. She also had VERy witty lyrics and had some funny things to say inbetween songs. I would encourage you to check her out (be sure to check out my favorite, "Drop Dead Gorgeous").
Here is a fun song of hers, "Colors"
